IMMEDIATE OPPORTUNITY for volunteers from ESTONIA or POLAND only.
This is an exceptional opportunity to live and work at the headquarters of a major UK charity, working as part of a professional team based in east London. Volunteers will learn the benefits of intercultural dialogue, practical skills for employment and improved English language skills.
The opportunity is available immediately.
The receiving organization BLESMA (the British Limbless Ex Servicemen’s Association) is a UK National Charity for people who have lost their arms, legs or eyes as a result of service in the British Armed Forces.
BLESMA is looking for one volunteer to have a role of social media assistant, and another to work in marketing and PR. The volunteers will be in the front line of the marketing and communications effort of a forward thinking, progressive organisation and will gain great learning opportunities. The volunteers will also assist with outside events. This will help with social integration and intercultural learning.
Accommodation is provided in a private apartment belonging to BLESMA. Each volunteer will have their own bedroom, with a shared kitchen, bathroom and living room. Volunteers are given a monthly allowance for food, and additional pocket money.
BLESMA is located in east London, about 25 minutes by train from the city centre. Volunteers will be shown how to use public transport, as part of their induction training.
Volunteers will benefit from in house induction training as well as standard EVS on-arrival and mid term training. Mixing with people with various forms of disability and from different generations will provide a rich learning environment for the volunteers. There will also be many spare time opportunities to enjoy all the cultural activities available in London.
Volunteers will be given access to the EVS online language training tools. Time is set aside for volunteers to carry out their online language studies as well as practising English every day in work and social contexts.
BLESMA have decided that they will pay additional pocket money over and above the normal allowance provided by EVS, to give volunteers more opportunity to enjoy London. Volunteers will also work normal office hours and will be entitled to statutory holidays including 20 days annual leave.
Tasks
BLESMA is looking to improve marketing and communications both internal and external. They are looking for one volunteer to have a role of social media assistant responsible for all social media output to members of the charity, their families and friends and supporters of the organisation including corporate donors and sponsors. As well as having a main responsibility for social media, the volunteer will have opportunities to help in wider field work through some of BLESMA’s outside events and activity promotions and in particular to have exposure to young dependents in member families and wider groups of supporters. The other volunteer will work more directly within marketing and PR being mentored by a London PR professional and a full time journalist as well as learning this particular trade through professionals within the office team. The volunteers will be in the front line of the marketing and communications effort of a forward thinking, progressive organisation and will gain great learning opportunities in a unique setting. In both cases, however, there will be given as much time as possible to volunteers assisting with outside events as described above. This will help with social integration and intercultural learning. A full job description will be available to applicants.
Criteria
Strong interest and experience in marketing and communications type work. Social media competence. Good English language ability. Experience and interest in disability issues are highly desirable. This opportunity is ideal for anyone intending to develop a career in this field.
Procedure
Send a CV and Motivation letter. We will send an info pack. We will then arrange a Skype interview for shortlisted candidates. Our aim is to select volunteers as soon as possible. Please note: exact dates and duration of the opportunity will be agreed with the successful applicant.
