I am Silvia di Gaetano, from Italy.
I work as young people trainer and I am also a professional interpreter and translator. I speak fluently: Italian, English, French, Spanish, German, Portuguese a bit of Dutch, Romanian, Catalan and Quichua.
Since I was 18 I lived, studied and worked throughout Europe and the rest of the world. I began with Germany, Austria, Spain, England, Belgium, France, India, South America, and many others countries.
In 2003 I started the Erasmus Programme in Austria for one year.
I wrote my final thesis on "The fight of Catalan language for its recognition in the EU" in Barcelona. I'm active in the fight of minority languages.
Last year I worked for an Italian NGO in Buenos, Aires, Argentina, under the Italian Presidency of the Council of Ministers, , helping Italian immigrants to achieve their rights in the original country (pension, Italian citizenship).
In South America I also got the opportunity to volunteering in the Amazonian jungle of Ecuador; that gave me experience on living and working in Developing Countries.
Afterwards, I collaborated as Interpreter and Translator with a group of Peruvian craftsmen in the Fair Trade market.
In 2006 I worked as Project Manager in Jef-Catalunya in Barcelona and as Project Coordinator in the “Speak up Europe” campaign conceived by the European Movement International (EMI) and its partners (JEF, UEF, AEGEE and EurActiv)in Brussels. It aimed to bring debates about Europe to the 25 EU Member States and thus contribute extensively to the “Plan D” of the European Commission.
In addition I worked as legal assistant in an American Law Firm and a German Lobby in Brussels.
But after two years of hard work I decided to change a bit my rhythms and dedicate more time to myself. I went to India, where I discovered my mission to help people in difficulties.
I am now living in London, where I’m working for an English NGO called IARS (Independent Academic Research Studies), a youth-led organisation that empower and give voice to young people so that they can influence policy and democratically engage in society as equal citizens.
Furthermore I am studying theatre, acrobatics, circus, tango, dance and I am committed in the defence of the environment.
In my own village I have founded an NGO with some friends, which aims to promote Arts, Culture, Peace and Environmental Defence.
