  • This is an 8 day training course aimed at those wishing to improve their confidence in the English language in the context of this very special topic which focuses on working with isolated young people on islands. The aim is to increase the quality and quantity of both localised and European project work to the benefit of all concerned by mobilising young people into action.

    This is a rare opportunity to gather together a large group of dedicated, island-based youth workers from across Europe, including the overseas territories/Les Outre-Mer. These participants must work directly with young people on islands. We will critically examine the challenges faced by both the young people and the workers, sharing tried and tested solutions and developing significant, innovative new ideas, using non-formal educational methods throughout. We will look at new technologies and tools to help to bridge the gap in communication to facilitate these and support the processes. We will seize the moment to create long-lasting, and crucially, relevant European partnerships to ensure that the outcomes of future cooperation are meaningful and sustainable. The week will culminate in a full day’s large scale event on the island which will provide the chance for the participants to showcase their youth work and raise awareness of their islands/countries. The visitors to the event will be from the island itself and nearby La Rochelle on the mainland and the surrounding areas. We will draw together young people and their families, mainland youth workers and members of the public who will all be invited to participate and there will be the opportunity to sign up for projects to increase both local action and international mobility in the new programme starting January 1st 2014.
